Attache case causes bomb scare
BANGKOK (Reuter): An unusually heavy, unattended attache case
caused a bomb scare yesterday at a hotel where officials of the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) were meeting.
But Thai police declared after checks it belonged to an ASEAN
delegate attending the meeting and it contained only documents.
Police and hotel security officials told Reuters the black
case, weighing over 15 kilograms, sparked suspicion when it
remained unclaimed for over an hour at the lobby of central
Bangkok's Oriental Hotel.
"We thought maybe it is a bomb. The attache case was heavy
which made it suspect," a police officer said.
Bomb disposal officers removed the case from the hotel and
took it away for checks.
