ATSI prepares solutions for expired internet data quotas
The Indonesian Telecommunications Providers Association (ATSI) has stated that mobile operators are currently finalising protection and compensation schemes for customers regarding expired internet data quotas.
ATSI Chairman Marwan O. Baasir, speaking in Bandung on Sunday, noted that these discussions are a follow-up to the Circular Letter from the Minister of Communication and Digital concerning provisions for customer quota protection.
“We have been discussing this for a month and the process is underway. Tomorrow, each operator will submit their respective reports,” said Marwan.
Marwan explained that the quota protection provisions essentially apply to internet data products with accumulated or rollover systems, as well as quotas that expire at the end of a period (non-rollover).
“Other forms of protection mean that operators have the flexibility to innovate and provide incentives for customers who choose non-rollover options,” he added.
He detailed several protection options currently being considered by operators, including extensions of the active period—for instance, providing an additional three days before the quota truly expires.
Additionally, there are options to provide points that customers can use to top up their quota or participate in lucky draw programmes.
Although several options have been discussed by ATSI members, the implementation of these policies will require time, as each operator needs to adjust their business models and billing systems.
“These preparations take time. We hope it will not take much longer to resolve this, as we are also concerned that the public is waiting,” he said.
Previously, at the end of August, the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, issued a circular to mobile operators regarding compliance with the Constitutional Court’s ruling on internet quota protection.
“Therefore, we recently issued a circular to operators and have set a deadline of 28 September for them to report their compliance,” Meutya stated during an interview at the Ministry of Communication and Digital office in Central Jakarta on Saturday.
Meutya expressed hope that mobile operators would meet these provisions and submit their compliance reports to the Ministry of Communication and Digital before the specified deadline.
