The Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) is accelerating the certification of waqf land and religious organisation assets, as only 58.47 percent of the 522,000 recorded plots nationwide have been certified. Minister Nusron Wahid stated in Jakarta on Thursday that the issue with waqf land often stems not from a lack of intention to manage it, but from incomplete documents, disorganised administration, or problems arising during generational transitions. The ministry is also preparing breakthroughs to support the development of productive waqf while maintaining the social function of waqf land in accordance with statutory regulations. This step is expected to broaden the benefits of waqf assets for public welfare without diminishing their legal protection. Speaking at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the Registration of Waqf Land and Assets and Assistance in the Prevention and Handling of Land Issues for Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah, the minister invited all religious organisations to work together to resolve these issues so that community assets have legal certainty. Through the agreement, the ministry and Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah will synergise in registering waqf land and organisational assets, providing assistance to prevent and handle land disputes, and strengthening coordination to protect organisational assets. The cooperation is expected to accelerate the legalisation of assets that have so far been undocumented or uncertified. The minister emphasised the importance of facilitating waqf land certification to ensure legal certainty and prevent future disputes over donated land.
