The change in detention status of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas to house arrest has drawn attention. Here is the atmosphere at Yaqut’s home. Observations by detikcom on Jalan Raya Condet, Batu Ampar, East Jakarta, on Monday (23/3/2026) at 17:00 WIB showed Yaqut’s house located within the Mahkota Residence Condet housing complex. The black-coloured housing gate appeared tightly closed. A man was seen guarding the location from inside the closed gate. Yaqut’s detention shifted to house arrest since Thursday (19/3). KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the house arrest for Yaqut was implemented after the KPK received a request from the family. The KPK then granted the request without providing further details on the family’s reasons for submitting it. “It was indeed due to a request from the family, and then we processed it,” explained Budi on Sunday (22/3). Former KPK Investigator Criticises KPK. Former KPK investigator Praswad Nugraha issued strong criticism towards the KPK after Yaqut’s detention was shifted to house arrest. Praswad assessed the incident as something that has never happened since the KPK was established. “This policy is an event that has never occurred throughout the history of the KPK’s existence. This practice is not only odd but also opens up grey areas in the standards of law enforcement that have been strictly maintained by the KPK,” Praswad told reporters on Monday (23/3). The KPK’s policy of granting the Yaqut family’s request for the former Minister of Religious Affairs to become a house detainee will have a negative impact on case handling at the KPK. Praswad said it opens the possibility for other detainees’ families to demand the same treatment from the KPK.
