Atma Jaya holds graduation ceremony
JAKARTA (JP): Atma Jaya University held its 33rd graduation ceremony at the Senayan Convention Center in Central Jakarta on Saturday.
Out of the 773 students awarded a degree at the ceremony, which was presided over by the university rector Thomas Suyatno, 22 were postgraduates and the other 751 were undergraduates.
In his speech Thomas urged the new graduates to continue developing their skills so as to enable them to survive and be accepted by the community, especially the labor market.
"Many new university graduates find difficulty in searching for jobs in line with their skills, but on the other hand there are many employers who are short of skilled manpower that meet requirements," he said.
Eighteen graduates, who achieved their best performances by recording 3.5 to 4 in their cumulative index of achievement, were bestowed golden rings as mementos from their alma mater.
Four of the best graduates were from the School of Economics, eight from the School of Teacher Training, three from the School of Medicine and one respectively from the School of Administration, School of Engineering and School of Law. (ivy)
