ATM BNI gives less
ATM BNI gives less
From Kompas
On April 25, 2001, I tried to withdraw Rp 500,000 from the
Bank BNI ATM at Plaza Sentral but received only seven Rp 50,000
banknotes, or Rp 350,000. I waited for a few more minutes but the
machine did not produce any more money. The withdrawal slip,
oddly, said Rp 500,000 had been debited from my account.
I immediately reported this matter to the customer service
division of the Plaza Sentral branch of Bank BNI. I was then put
in touch with a Mr. Wahyu via the telephone, who asked me to wait
for a week for the matter to be clarified.
A week later, May 4, 2001, I again went to the customer
service division of the Plaza Sentral branch of Bank BNI and was
again put in touch with Mr. Wahyu, who turned out to be from the
accounts division. I was very disappointed to hear his reply,
though. He said that an administration record of the cash
withdrawal showed that I did withdraw Rp 500,000. During a check
of the money stock in the ATM, the officer in charge reported
that there was no difference between the amount of banknotes in
the ATM and the amount on the withdrawal slips. It was then clear
to me that the key to this problem was the dishonesty on the part
of the Bank BNI officer conducting the check of the ATM. If the
banknotes making up the difference between the total amount of
the supply of money in the ATM and the total amount of
withdrawals stated on the slips are not reported, the
administration division will never know that the machine has made
a mistake detrimental to the interests of the customers.
The officials at Bank BNI must take this matter seriously to
ensure that such an incident will not happen to other BNI
customers.
