Athletes, press insured for $25,000

BANGKOK (Reuters): The organizers of next week's Asian Games in Thailand said on Tuesday they had insured the life of every athlete, official and journalist who attends for US$25,000.

The Games organizing committee said it had taken out a $300- million policy with Thai Prasit Insurance Co Ltd, Thailand's largest insurance firm.

Santiparb Tejavanija, marketing director of the committee, said it was the first time an insurance policy had been taken out covering athletes, media representatives and officials at the Games.

This was now essential as the event had become a multimillion dollar concern, he added.
