JAKARTA - Indonesia condemned Israel during an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) discussing the deaths of three TNI soldiers in the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission.

“Indonesia strongly condemns the Israeli attack in southern Lebanon, which constitutes a serious violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Umar Hadi, during the UNSC meeting broadcast live on the United Nations YouTube channel on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

“However, that ‘framing’ ignores the fundamental question: Who is responsible for creating and perpetuating that active zone of hostility? This latest escalation did not occur in a vacuum. It stems from repeated attacks by the Israeli military on Lebanese territory,” Umar Hadi stated in English.

“Indonesia continues to stand in solidarity with the government and people of Lebanon,” Umar added.

He continued that the repeated attacks on Lebanese territory deliberately targeted UNIFIL and obstructed the peacekeeping force from implementing UNSC Resolution 1701, which mandates a peaceful solution for Lebanon.

The attacks were also deemed a direct threat to peace and security.

“And can be considered war crimes,” Umar Hadi said.

“Let me be clear, we are calling for a UN investigation, not Israeli excuses,” Umar Hadi stated.

Umar Hadi listed the names of the fallen and injured TNI soldiers in Lebanon from the incidents on 29 and 30 March.

The three who died were Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon (27), Captain Infantry Zulmi Aditya Iskandar (33), and Sergeant Major Muhammad Nur Ichwan (25).

“This is a great loss for Indonesia, and also a great loss for all of us, for the UN, for this Security Council, and for every community that views peacekeepers as symbols of hope and peace,” Umar Hadi said.

He noted that Farizal fell while on duty at the Adchit Al Qusayr post. Zulmi and Nur Ichwan were killed while on duty supporting logistics provision in Banni Hayyan.

He also named the five injured soldiers at the forum: Captain Sultan Wiryan Maulana, Private First Class Rico Pramudia, Private First Class Arief Kurniawan, Private First Class Bayu Prakoso, and Deni Riyanto.

“These peacekeepers fell and were injured while carrying out the mandate entrusted to them by this UN Security Council,” Umar Hadi said.
