Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono undertook a working visit to New York, United States, from 16–18 February 2026 to attend a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting.

The meeting addressed the situation in the Middle East, including the question of Palestine.

Sugiono’s presence at the forum also reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to playing an active role in peace and humanitarian efforts, including the reconstruction and recovery of Gaza.

Beyond that, Sugiono also spoke about Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace.

“This represents the consistency of our independent and active foreign policy in supporting just and sustainable peace, in accordance with the Two-State Solution, as well as genuine solidarity with the Palestinian people,” according to a statement quoted from the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs website on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.

Sugiono was also scheduled to hold meetings with the UN Secretary-General and Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the UN to discuss future steps in advancing peace in Palestine, including extending an invitation to attend the D-8 Summit to be held in April 2026 in Jakarta.

Sugiono was also planned to meet with the British Foreign Secretary, who holds the presidency of the UN Security Council for February 2026.
