At UM Bandung's 10th Milad, Haedar Nashir Urges Pride in Being a Muhammadiyah Cadre

Universitas Muhammadiyah (UM) Bandung concluded its 10th anniversary celebrations with a Fun Run event attended by approximately 1,500 participants. Thousands of academics, students, alumni, and members of the public enthusiastically gathered on the campus grounds from before dawn. The peak of the celebration was made special by the presence of the Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah, Prof Haedar Nashir. Before flagging off the Fun Run participants, Haedar urged the entire UM Bandung community to take pride in being part of the organisation. He stated that this Islamic movement has and will continue to make real contributions to religion, the nation, and humanity at large, both nationally and globally. According to Prof Haedar, the greatness of Muhammadiyah is not only measured by the number of its members but also by its work, service, and benefits to the wider community across various fields. In education, for instance, many Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah universities are now ranked among the top higher education institutions. He also noted that holding the Fun Run after dawn carries deep meaning, serving as a means to maintain physical and spiritual health while reflecting a spirit of discipline, productivity, and a healthy lifestyle. Haedar announced special prizes for the Fun Run winners, with Rp25 million for first place, Rp10 million for second, and Rp7.5 million for third, drawing applause from the participants. He expressed great optimism for the future of UM Bandung, believing that after a decade of positive change, the campus is on track to become a leading university in West Java and Indonesia. Meanwhile, Rector Herry Suhardiyanto emphasised that the 10th anniversary serves as a momentum to further strengthen the institution’s quality. Strategic steps are being taken, including improving human resources, increasing the number of doctoral lecturers, enhancing study programme accreditation, strengthening partnerships, boosting scientific publications, expanding promotions, increasing prospective student numbers, and developing campus facilities.
