At Prambanan Temple, PM Modi Prays for India-Indonesia Prosperity

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers for the welfare and prosperity of Indonesia and his own country during a visit to the Prambanan Temple complex in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, alongside President Prabowo Subianto. In a press statement, Modi said he felt honoured to pray at the Prambanan complex, the second-largest Hindu site in Southeast Asia. He noted that the temple, which houses sacred statues of Lord Shiva, Goddess Durga, and Lord Ganesha, has been a centre of Hindu worship for centuries. “Today, I too had the honour of offering prayers in the most traditional way and paying my respects at this sacred temple,” Modi stated on Wednesday. He described the moment as one of the most sacred and devotional experiences of his life. Modi said he prayed for the strengthening of relations between India and Indonesia and for the prosperity of the people of both nations. “And I prayed for rapid progress and prosperity for both our nations,” he added. Modi said the opportunity to visit Prambanan held special meaning, not only as a spiritual experience but also because he was accompanied by President Prabowo, whom he called a “friend”. In the same occasion, President Prabowo Subianto said Candi Prambanan serves as a reminder of the long-standing relationship between Indonesia and India. He stated that the temple is not only a symbol of Indonesia’s historical and cultural glory but also a reminder of the strong civilisational ties that have connected the two countries for more than a thousand years. Prabowo noted that the relationship between Indonesia and India is built not only through political, economic, and defence cooperation but is also deeply rooted in cultural values, knowledge, and mutual respect. “We can still see and feel these historical traces today,” Prabowo said.
