At last, police detectives complete Oki's dossiers
JAKARTA (JP): After lengthy investigations, city police detectives have finally completed dossiers on the alleged role of Harnoko Dewantono, alias Oki, in the killing of two Indonesians and an Indian in Los Angeles.
Capt. Amhar, one of the interrogating officers, told reporters yesterday that the dossiers will be submitted to the prosecutor's office as soon as the venue for the trial, Los Angeles or Jakarta, is decided.
"The only thing we're waiting for is the final decision on the trial venue, which is still being considered (by the government)," said Amhar, head of the planning division of the City Police Crime Investigation Directorate.
The U.S. government has made an official request to Jakarta for the expulsion of Oki in order to try the suspect in an American court.
The 30-year-old is the main suspect in the killing of all three victims: Gina Sutan Aswar, an Indonesian woman, Tri (Eri) Harto Darmawan, his brother, and Suresh Mirchandani, an Indian businessman, said Amhar, who was one of the four Jakarta police assigned to collect information and material evidence in Los Angeles last month.
It's strongly believed that the three victims were brutally tortured and killed, with money as the motive.
A copy of the police findings on Oki's case seen by The Jakarta Post said that Suresh was tortured and shot to death in August 1991 and Gina was battered to death on Nov. 2, 1992 in a garage in Kentfield Brentwood, while Eri was beaten viciously at an apartment on Palm Boulevard several days after Gina's death.
The killing of Suresh allegedly took place a few days after he and Oki failed to reach an agreement on the purchase of Oki's laundry business. No further reports on how Gina and Eri were killed were available.
The decomposing bodies of the three victims had been kept in U Haul storage locker No. 109 in Northridge since May, 1993, before being found by the warehouse owner in August last year.
Previously, the bodies were hidden at separate locations. The body of Gina was kept at a public storage facility on Van Nuys Boulevard immediately after she was killed.
In a report made by the Los Angeles police, the bodies of Gina and Eri were completely clothed, while Suresh's body was clad only in underwear and socks.
All three bodies had severe wounds, especially to the heads.
One of Gina's ears was missing, while Suresh's lungs, heart and part of his abdomen and skeleton were missing.
In a related development, two visiting LAPD detectives left Jakarta yesterday for Los Angeles after completing their investigation. They arrived here early last week.
"All information we got here is no different than what we've found in Los Angeles," Ted Ball, one of the detectives, told reporters after paying a courtesy call to City Police Chief Brig. Gen. Dibyo Widodo. (bsr)
