Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the French Republic during a joint press statement with President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace on Thursday, 28 May 2026.

President Prabowo highlighted the close collaboration between the two nations in bilateral cooperation, addressing global uncertainties, and emphasising the importance of Indonesia and France’s role in maintaining world peace.

“Looking ahead, we are confident that in this global climate of uncertainty, tension, and conflict, our two nations can play a positive role. Indonesia will always champion efforts to preserve peace. In today’s world, where the globe has become smaller due to science and technology, war and conflict cannot bring benefit to anyone,” said the President.

The President welcomed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation through the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), also known as CEPA. The President also expressed appreciation for President Macron’s support for boosting bilateral investment and economic cooperation, including the establishment of the France-Indonesia High-Level Business Council, which is expected to strengthen business ties between Indonesia and France.

“This is very important, and we are delighted that French companies will continue to participate in Indonesia’s economy, and as a European leader, France will continue to play a crucial role in Southeast Asia,” President Prabowo added.

On global issues, Presidents Prabowo and Macron also discussed the importance of Middle East stability, which has direct implications for global energy and supply chains. The Head of State reiterated Indonesia’s support for a two-state solution as the path to peace in Palestine.

“I am also pleased that France is among the pioneers encouraging many European and Western nations to support a two-state solution and Palestinian independence. Indonesia remains of the view that there can be no peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution and justice for the Palestinian people,” President Prabowo stated.

During the event, President Prabowo also thanked the French government for its warm and honourable reception of him and the Indonesian delegation. He assessed the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and France to be at a very high level.

“Today, I was received with great honour. Thank you once again; may Indonesia and France continue to move forward with clear direction and strong commitment,” the Head of State added.

Concluding his remarks, President Prabowo stressed that Indonesia views France and Europe as key strategic partners in creating a balanced and peaceful multipolar world order. He expressed optimism that Indonesia-France relations will continue to develop with strong commitment from both nations.

“Your Excellency, once again thank you for the warm reception of myself and my delegation. I am confident our discussions will yield positive results. Indonesia regards France and Europe as a significant global power, and we wish to see France and Europe grow stronger and more resilient, enabling us to cooperate in a multipolar world,” the Head of State concluded.
