At EEF, Prabowo states the Pacific Ocean connects Indonesia and Russia
The Pacific Ocean does not separate us; the Pacific Ocean connects us.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the Pacific Ocean is not a divider, but rather a connector between Indonesia and Russia in an effort to strengthen bilateral relations.
Delivering a speech as the guest of honour at the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday, Prabowo emphasised that the Pacific Ocean connects rather than separates.
“The Pacific Ocean does not separate us; the Pacific Ocean connects us. This is not a wall between us; it must become a highway between our two economies,” said Prabowo, as monitored from the Presidential Secretariat’s live YouTube broadcast.
“However, Vladivostok also feels quite close to my home. The same great ocean, the Pacific Ocean, touches the shores of Russia and also touches the shores of Indonesia,” he added.
Prabost stated that this proximity is one of the reasons Indonesia is striving to build a stronger bridge with the Russian Far East and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
The Head of State explained that Indonesia is situated between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, while both the Russian Far East and Indonesia possess vast territories. This condition, according to him, opens opportunities to strengthen relations between the two regions.
On this occasion, Prabowo also linked the theme of the 11th EEF, “Far East: Development for the Benefit of Society,” with the mandate given to him by the Indonesian people.
“I must tell you that this is not just the theme of the Russian Far East; it is also the mandate given to me by the people of Indonesia,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo also expressed his anticipation for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Indonesia.
“In fact, this is the fifth time since I became President of Indonesia that I have met with President Putin. I look forward to reciprocating the hospitality shown to me by Russia and welcoming President Putin and many of you to Indonesia,” said Prabowo.
It is noted that President Prabowo is conducting a working visit to Vladivostok, Russia, to attend the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) taking place from 1–4 September 2026. President Prabowo is attending as the primary guest of honour.
The forum serves as one of Russia’s platforms to strengthen economic cooperation with countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including through trade, investment, and energy cooperation.
President Prabowo’s visit is also part of an effort to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia, particularly in the economic sector.
