At DPR Session Closing, Puan Mourns Fallen TNI Soldiers and Warns of Global Conflict Impacts

House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani conveyed condolences over the deaths of three TNI soldiers who were part of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon. The statement was delivered in the closing speech for the Fourth Session of the 2025–2026 Legislative Year of the DPR RI on Tuesday (21/4/2026). “On behalf of the leadership and all members of the DPR RI, please allow me to express our deepest condolences for the passing of Captain Inf. Zulmi Aditya, Sergeant Major M Nur Ichwan, and Private First Class Farizal Romadhon while carrying out a humanitarian mission in Lebanon,” Puan said during the Plenary Session at Nusantara II Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta. She hoped that the fallen soldiers would receive the best place and that their bereaved families would be granted strength. As is known, the three soldiers perished while performing duties as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) at the end of March, amid the escalation of conflict between the Israeli military and Hezbollah. Regarding the incident, Puan emphasised the importance of a credible investigation together with the UN to uncover objective facts. Puan also requested that the government conduct a comprehensive evaluation of TNI soldier assignments in conflict areas, from the clarity of mandates to maximum protection for personnel. “This is in accordance with international best practice standards in UN peacekeeping operations, which demand readiness in political, capacity, and operational environment aspects,” she added. In addition to expressing grief, Puan also warned of the impacts of escalating global conflicts, particularly the intensifying tensions between the United States (US), Israel, and Iran. According to her, the conflict has exerted real pressure on the global and national economy. “This conflict risks driving up energy prices, worsening global inflation, and increasing economic and financial uncertainty worldwide,” Puan said. “Wars occurring far from our country’s territory, but their impacts are directly felt domestically through prices, purchasing power, and economic stability,” Puan stated. Therefore, Puan assessed that the government needs to take strategic steps to maintain economic stability and ensure that the public can still meet their living needs.
