Astrud Gilberto to perform here
Jazz vocalist Astrud Gilberto, best known for the song The girl from Ipanema, will entertain her Jakartan fans with Brazilian and bossa nova rhythms at the Jakarta Blue Note Jazz Club and Restaurant from Oct. 10 to 15. Gilberto will perform twelve times during her six day visit here.
Gilberto is known throughout the world as a pioneer of the bossa nova movement in the sixties. Her music, a unique combination of Brazilian and American pop and jazz music, has influenced many international musicians such as Basia, Sade, Sinead O'Connor, Michael Franks, Pat Metheney and Suzanne Vega.
Gilberto received a Grammy award in 1963 for The girl from Ipanema and also a special prize in 1992 for her dedication to and achievement in jazz and Latin jazz music.
In Jakarta she will be accompanied by Jay Ashby on trombone and percussion, Mark Lampariello on guitar, Leonard Traversa on bass, Kimson Plaut on piano and keyboard and Duduka Da Fonseca on drum.
The Blue Note will charge Rp 100,000 (US$45.87) per person for Gilberto's shows. A special price of Rp 50,000 for students is also available.(als)
