Astra's LCGC Market Share Grows but Volume Shrinks: What Does It Mean?

In the midst of general market pressures, Astra continues to maintain a strong dominance in the low cost green car (LCGC) segment. Astra’s LCGC market share reached 79% in March 2026, up from 73% in February.

However, this dominance is not entirely encouraging. LCGC sales volumes have experienced a sharp decline. From 11,412 units in February, the total LCGC market fell to just 6,725 units in March.

Astra itself recorded LCGC sales of 5,325 units in March, a significant drop compared to 8,316 units in the previous month. This means that although the market share has increased, the overall market pie has shrunk.

Looking back, this trend has actually been visible since 2025. Total LCGC sales throughout last year reached 122,668 units, but its contribution has tended to stagnate and is no longer the main growth driver.

This situation indicates that the affordable car segment is starting to lose momentum, likely pressured by purchasing power or changing consumer preferences shifting to vehicles with higher features, including electrification.

For Astra, LCGC remains a defensive stronghold. However, if the market shrinkage trend continues, strength in this segment may not be sufficient to support overall dominance.
