Astra Tol Cipali Intensifies Waste Management Education at Rest Areas
Cikopo-Palimanan Toll Road manager Astra Tol Cipali is intensifying waste management education for road users and business operators at the KM 164 Rest Area in West Java as part of the 2026 World Environment Day commemorations.
Head of Sustainability Management and Corporate Communications at Astra Tol Cipali, Ardam, stated in Cirebon on Friday that the activity aims to raise public awareness of the importance of reducing waste and single-use plastic consumption. He said the Environment Day commemoration should not be merely ceremonial but must be followed by concrete actions that directly involve the community.
“We want this momentum to serve as an educational tool for the public so they become more concerned about waste management and environmental preservation,” he said.
The activity held at the Jakarta-bound KM 164 Rest Area featured the distribution of tumblers and rubbish bins to visitors. The company also provided education on sorting waste at source to reduce the volume of refuse ending up in landfills.
Astra Tol Cipali also invited tenants in the rest area to reduce the use of single-use plastic packaging in their business activities. According to Ardam, waste reduction must be carried out collectively so its impact can be felt in the long term.
“Good waste management requires the involvement of all parties, including road users and business operators at rest areas,” he stated.
In this activity, Astra Tol Cipali partnered with PT Wirani Sons, the manager of the KM 164 Rest Area, to present an educational booth on sorting five types of waste. The booth displayed various recycled products, such as compost and briquettes produced by the community of Kampung Berseri Astra in Bongas Kulon Village, Majalengka Regency. These products are the result of reprocessing waste to give it utility and economic value.
Ardam said sustainable waste management is part of the company’s commitment to supporting environmental preservation efforts. “Through the processing and reuse of waste, we want to show that refuse can be transformed into useful products,” he said.
In addition to holding the waste management campaign, the company also planted 70 tree seedlings at the Subang Operational Office. Ardam emphasised that the tree planting is one of the company’s steps in supporting environmental sustainability and carbon emission reduction. “Environmental protection efforts must be carried out consistently through various concrete actions, including reforestation and responsible waste management,” he concluded.
