Astra to launch 1,000-cc car

JAKARTA: Indonesia's largest automotive company, PT Astra
International, plans to launch a Toyota passenger vehicle with an
engine capacity of 1,000 cc in January, an official with the
company said on Friday.

"The new vehicle will be the small version of the Toyota
Kijang," the official, who declined to be named, told Dow Jones
Newswires.

The Toyota Kijang is Astra's best selling minivan produced
with Japan's Toyota Motor Corp. Kijang is sold with engine sizes
of 1,600 cc, 1,800 cc and 2,000 cc and 2,400 cc.

Astra's move to launch the new model is aimed at capturing the
growing market for passenger vehicles with engine sizes of
between 800 cc and 1,000 cc.

Singapore's Cycle & Carriage Ltd. owns a 34.3 percent stake in
Astra.
