Astra International remains top company

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Automotive company Astra International ranks first among Indonesia's top 10 companies for a second consecutive year, according to a survey published by the Far Eastern Economic Review magazine.

The magazine said in its New Year double issue that hit newsstands on Thursday that instant noodle manufacturer Indofood ranked second, followed by cigarette companies Sampoerna, Gudang Garam, telecommunication company Indosat, cigarette company Djarum and telecommunication company Telkomsel.

Ranking eighth was telecommunication company Satelindo, which is followed by drink company Sosro and television firm SCTV, the magazine reported in the survey conducted by ACNielsen International Research in Hong Kong, sponsored by DHL Worldwide Express.

Astra's continued reign at the top reflects its reputation for ethics and management skill, the magazine quoted analyst Wilson Nababan as saying.

The survey asked readers to rank 208 multinational corporations in Asia and between 26 and 39 companies in each of 11 countries around the region.

Microsoft remains the top multinational company in doing business in Asia for the seventh consecutive year.
