Astra International (ASII) Appoints Chatib Basri as Independent Commissioner

JAKARTA - PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) has appointed Muhamad Chatib Basri as an Independent Commissioner at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGMS) 2026, held on Thursday (23/4/2026). The same meeting also appointed Prijono Sugiarto as President Commissioner. The independent commissioner position is also filled by Pariya Tangtongpairoth. The two complement Sri Indrastuti Hadiputranto and Muliaman Darmansyah Hadad. Several names remain in the commissioner lineup. They include Anthony John Liddell Nightingale, Benjamin William Keswick, Stephen Patrick Gore, Lincoln Lin Feng Pan, and Lee Liang Whye. Muhamad Chatib Basri is known as an economist with expertise in macroeconomics, international trade, and political economy. He studied at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia. He continued his studies at the Australian National University. He earned a Master’s degree in development economics in 1996 and a doctorate in economics in 2001. His academic career began as a research assistant in the Department of Economics, Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, Australian National University from 1994 to 2001. He served as an advisor in the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs from 2004 to 2005. He also acted as Deputy Minister of Finance for the Group of Twenty (G20) forum from 2006 to 2010 and as Sherpa for the G20 Summit in Washington in 2008. Chatib served as Vice Chairman of the President’s Economic Committee from 2010 to 2012. In 2012, he was appointed as Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM). He was subsequently appointed as Minister of Finance from 2013 to 2014 during the presidency of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
