JAKARTA — Astra has constructed 250 decent homes for farmers in Banyumas Regency, Central Java, and Garut Regency, West Java. Of the total, 165 houses were built in Banyumas and 85 in Garut for farmers involved in the Productive Carbon Forest program under Astra’s Desa Sejahtera initiative. The initiative was announced during a key handover ceremony and the launch of EcoBiz Desa Sejahtera Astra Garut in Pakenjeng District, Garut Regency, on Thursday, 28 May 2026. Astra also conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for new housing for Desa Sejahtera Astra beneficiaries in Garut. Astra’s Chief of Corporate Affairs, Boy Kelana Soebroto, stated that the RLH programme is part of Astra’s commitment to improving community quality of life through safer, healthier, and more comfortable housing. Handovers in Garut took place across four villages: Telaga Wangi, Marga Mulya, Jayamekar, and Cikandang. Alongside housing construction, Astra launched EcoBiz Desa Sejahtera Astra Garut as an integrated coffee processing hub connecting farmers, cooperatives, and buyers. The initiative involves approximately 3,000 farmers across over 1,500 hectares of land, with production capacity reaching hundreds of tonnes of green bean coffee. The EcoBiz hub will also serve as a learning centre, educational tourism destination, and platform for cross-sector collaboration. Since 2020, Astra has implemented a coffee-based development programme in Desa Sejahtera Astra Garut in collaboration with IPB University. The initiative successfully established two cooperatives: Mandalagiri Coffee Producers Cooperative and Al-Bayyinah Sejahtera Cooperative. It focuses on coffee development, empowering forest farmer groups, and agroforestry expansion through the planting of approximately 1,400 hectares of productive forest. Through this initiative, Astra has reached over 4,000 community members, boosting household incomes by up to 328% and creating new employment opportunities. The coffee products developed under Desa Sejahtera Astra Garut have also entered European export markets. Astra’s commitment to rural development through decent housing and the EcoBiz initiative aligns with its vision of national prosperity and supports Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
