Astra, BNPB and Kemenko PMK distribute 5,000 logistics packages to NTT

The earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) has left Indonesia in mourning, particularly amid the commemoration of the 81st Independence Day on 17 August 2026. According to data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck NTT on Saturday, 15 August 2026, caused dozens of deaths, injured more than 130 people, and displaced around 5,000 residents.

Chief of Corporate Affairs of PT Astra International Tbk, Boy Kelana Soebroto, stated that the theme of the 81st Independence Day, ‘Indonesia Berdaulat, Adil, dan Makmur’ (Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia), serves as a driving force for Astra personnel in providing sustainable contributions. At this moment, humanitarian aid was also distributed to communities affected by the NTT earthquake.

‘The theme of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia this year invites us to view independence not merely as a celebration, but also as a spirit that we continue to keep alive through works and contributions. Astra is committed to continuing to grow together with the community through collaborations that provide benefits,’ said Boy Kelana in an official statement on Monday (17/8).

As an emergency response measure to the NTT earthquake, through the Nurani Astra programme, initial assistance was distributed in the form of 5,000 basic food packages. In addition to staple food items, Astra also sent four Starlink satellite internet units and power stations to restore and support communication network and electricity supply needs at the disaster site.

The logistics distribution was coordinated directly with the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (Kemenko PMK), the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the NTT Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and the Ruteng Search and Rescue Office.

Boy emphasised that this social concern is in line with the company’s four pillars of contribution, covering health, education, entrepreneurship, and the environment. One of its main focuses is the empowerment of rural communities through the Desa Sejahtera Astra programme, which has now reached more than 1,500 villages in 35 provinces, with benefits felt by more than 3 million people.
