Astra (ASII) to Focus on Three Key Profit-Generating Segments
PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) has established three core businesses that will serve as the focus for the company’s future development. These three businesses include automotive, financial services, and mining and heavy equipment solutions.
Tira Ardianti, Head of Corporate Investor Relations at Astra International, revealed that the company’s current revenue contribution is still dominated by the automotive segment at 40%. Meanwhile, financial services contribute 3lag 31%, mining and heavy equipment solutions account for 18%, and other businesses, ranging from agribusiness to information technology, contribute 11%.
“Within these core businesses, we still see many opportunities for future growth and we will continue to strengthen them. We will continue to sharpen our strategic focus on these three core businesses, while certainly having a clearer framework for our wider businesses,” said Tira during Astra Media Day in Jakarta on Wednesday.
In a separate statement to journalists, Tira mentioned that one concrete example of the company’s focus is the plan to increase ownership in AUTO through VTO, which was announced recently at an offer price of Rp3,600 per share. If all target shares are acquired, the transaction will require approximately Rp858 billion.
“This step is in line with the Company’s focus to strengthen its three core businesses, particularly the automotive business through the strengthening of the components business,” Tira stated in writing.
In addition to focusing on the Group’s three core businesses, Astra is also implementing a more disciplined capital allocation framework, including dividends and share buybacks, as well as a commitment to transformation through leadership alignment.
In terms of performance, Astra’s automotive business recorded a net profit of Rp5.9 trillion, an increase of 9% compared to the same period the previous year. This growth was primarily supported by an increase in new car sales and a strong contribution from the components division.
Meanwhile, the financial services business recorded a net profit of Rp4.6 trillion, an annual increase of 6%. This performance demonstrates resilient growth amidst various economic challenges.
On the other hand, the mining and heavy equipment solutions business recorded a net profit of Rp2.7 trillion, excluding non-recurring items, which is a 46% decrease compared to the same period last year. This decline was influenced by minimal gold sales from the Martabe mine and the impact of reduced national coal production quotas (RKAB), which pressured demand for heavy equipment, mining services, and coal production volumes.
As part of its capital allocation strategy, Astra has announced a share buyback programme of up to Rp8 trillion for the next 12 months. This programme received approval during the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders on 17 July 2026.
Furthermore, United Tractors (UT) has also announced a share buyback programme of up to Rp2 trillion for the next three months. Previously, from November 2025 to the end of June 2026, Astra and UT completed share buyback programmes with a total value reaching Rp7.4 trillion.
The company has also implemented management incentive alignment through the Management Stock Option Plan (MSOP). This step is part of an effort to strengthen the alignment of interests between management and shareholders.
Astra’s management emphasised its continued focus on executing new corporate strategies amidst ongoing global uncertainty. The company believes that operational excellence, business resilience, financial balance sheet strength, and disciplined capital allocation will support long-term growth and enhance total returns for shareholders.
