Assured: Prabowo Says Food Supply Secure
President Prabowo Subianto has assured the nation that Indonesia’s food supply is secure despite global crises and conflicts unfolding across various regions worldwide.
“Whatever happens elsewhere where many nations will face difficulties, at minimum we are secure on the food question,” Prabowo stated during a video conference broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Monday afternoon, 9 March.
The President attributed this assurance to food self-sufficiency efforts championed over many years. Prabowo noted that Indonesia has already achieved rice self-sufficiency and the government targets meeting domestic protein requirements.
With these achievements, Indonesia is assessed to possess strong food security, remaining secure even as numerous other nations face difficulties from global turmoil. “Amidst wars everywhere, with fuel prices soaring extremely high which can affect food prices, we are thankful that we have nearly achieved food self-sufficiency. We have already reached rice self-sufficiency, where rice is our staple food. But we will soon also reach the capacity to meet our protein needs,” he stated.
In the energy sector, the President noted the government is also promoting energy self-sufficiency. Future fuel oil requirements are expected to no longer depend on imports, but rather be met from domestic energy sources.
“We possess great blessings from the Almighty that we will have the capacity for our fuel oil needs not from foreign imports, but from our crops—from palm oil, cassava, maize, and sugarcane,” the Head of State said.
Further, Prabowo cautioned that amid global uncertainty resulting from conflicts between major powers, other nations risk being drawn into difficulties. However, with the wealth possessed, Prabowo is optimistic Indonesia can emerge from the global crisis stronger, more productive and capable of standing on its own feet.
“We have strength, and I believe we will emerge stronger. We will come out of this crisis in a stronger and more prosperous condition, more productive, more capable of standing on our own feet. We are deeply grateful for the blessings bestowed upon us by the Almighty,” he said.
The President emphasised the importance of hard work, unity, and cooperation among all institutions and various parties to address the situation.
