Association urges ojol drivers to voice aspirations peacefully

The Nusantara Ojol Association (AON) has asked online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers conveying their aspirations at the DPR RI building to maintain order and prioritise peaceful approaches.

“We may express our opinions, but prioritise a cool, calm approach. Our hope is that all ojol drivers in Greater Jakarta can operate smoothly,” said AON Chairman Dianton after the Traffic Safety Festival event held by the National Police Traffic Corps together with stakeholders and ojol communities at the Police Traffic Education Centre in Serpong, South Tangerang, on Thursday.

Dianton also urged the government to promptly listen to and respond to the various aspirations being voiced by ojol drivers on the ground, particularly given information that protests may continue over the coming days.

Dianton stressed that the Nusantara Ojol Association is open to differing views and the individual right to express aspirations.

“We are fundamentally open to each person expressing their own opinions, because that is the right of each individual,” he said.

However, he reminded that the expression of aspirations should not be carried out anarchically. According to him, ojol drivers still need to maintain decorum and cultural values when conveying their demands.

“Do not be anarchic. We must remain courteous. Our country is an Eastern nation, and we must continue to uphold Eastern culture,” Dianton concluded.

A total of 18,504 personnel have been deployed to secure and serve the demonstrations held at several locations in Central Jakarta.

Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Senior Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung said security was being carried out in layers to ensure that the expression of aspirations proceeds safely, orderly, and conducively.

“Security measures began at 07.00 WIB, involving a number of senior officials and control officers,” said Reynold.
