Association: NTB Contributes Billions in Turnover from Sacrificial Animal Sales
The Indonesian Association of Bima Dompu Cattle Breeders and Traders (APPSBDI) has revealed that the turnover from the sale of sacrificial animals originating from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) reaches hundreds of billions of rupiah every year. The majority of shipments of Bima Dompu cattle are destined for the main markets in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) region.
“On average, 20,000 head of cattle are sent each year,” said APPSBDI Chairman Furqan Sangiang to the Antara news agency in Mataram, NTB, on Monday (27/4/2026).
He explained that the lowest price for Bima Dompu cattle is Rp15 million per head, which can reach Rp50 million per head for the highest quality.
From the 20,000 head of cattle distributed from NTB each Eid al-Adha season, the turnover created is around Rp500 billion to Rp600 billion.
According to Furqan, the sacrificial cattle farming industry also contributes to the income of NTB Province. This is through levies paid by breeders amounting to Rp62,000 for each head of cattle.
“The cattle business provides contributions for breeders to fund their children’s education and drive the wheels of the economy,” said Furqan.
Based on data from the NTB Quarantine Office, the distribution of cattle from NTB from January to 27 April 2026 was dominated by shipments to Jabodetabek, reaching 25,974 head with 1,046 shipment frequencies.
Meanwhile, distribution of cattle outside Jabodetabek was recorded at 3,257 head, and to the Lombok region only 3,020 head, indicating that the concentration of distribution of livestock from NTB is mostly directed to Java Island.
The livestock sector has reduced pressure on the environment because communities that previously relied on forest clearing activities for maize plantations have begun to shift to cattle breeding businesses as a more sustainable source of income.
