Association: Mall Footfall Rises 15 Percent During Ramadan
JAKARTA — The Indonesian Shopping Centre Management Association (APPBI) has revealed that mall visitors during Ramadan 1447 Hijri rose by up to 15 percent. Alphonzus Widjaja, the chairman of APPBI, said the association expects the visits to continue rising. He disclosed this at the launch of the Shopping Programme in Indonesia Aja (BINA) Lebaran 2026 at Senayan City Mall, Jakarta. APPBI predicts that the rise in mall visits will peak this week, from Friday through Sunday. Visitors will continue to come until next week before people undertake mudik to their hometowns. ‘So I think the peak will occur in these two weeks,’ said Alphonzus. This has led to a slight shift in consumer spending patterns. While during Ramadan visits were to purchase a range of goods, after Lebaran consumption shifts toward food. ‘After Eid al-Fitr or on the second day, after the second Eid al-Fitr, it will be more toward food, drinks, and also entertainment,’ Alphonzus said. The visitation rate has been observed to rise by up to 15 percent. ‘As for transactions, we expect the increase to be roughly in the same range,’ he added. At the same event, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the government has rolled out various stimulus measures in the first quarter of 2026.
