Jakarta – A demonstration urging the ratification of the Asset Forfeiture Bill in front of the DPR RI building in Senayan on Thursday, 27 August 2026, proceeded in an orderly manner. The DPR RI responded to these aspirations by opening a dialogue and providing a deadline for certainty on the ratification of the Asset Forfeiture Bill no later than 15 December 2026.

Budiman Sudjatmiko, Head of the Poverty Alleviation Acceleration Agency (BP Taskin), stated that the ratification of the Asset Forfeiture Bill is not merely a law enforcement instrument, but part of a fundamental calculation regarding the state’s capacity to finance poverty alleviation programmes.

“President Prabowo Subianto is fully committed to eliminating budget leakages. Corruption creates two main problems: leakage and crime. If we can eliminate this leakage through the forfeiture of assets derived from crime, the government will have more fiscal space and funds that can be directly diverted to poverty alleviation programmes,” Budiman asserted in Jakarta on 27 August 2026.

Budiman explained that corruption causes the state to suffer double losses. Firstly, the loss of public money. Secondly, the erosion of the state’s capacity to carry out its service and development functions. Therefore, the forfeiture of assets derived from crime serves as a tool for restoring the state’s fiscal capacity.

The more tightly budget leakages are closed, Budiman continued, the more spacious the fiscal room available to execute programmes that directly impact the poor. Eradicating corruption is no longer merely a standalone legal agenda, but is closely integrated with the strategy for social welfare development.
