Jakarta – House of Representatives Commission III has begun accelerating deliberations on the Asset Forfeiture Bill during the first sitting period of 2026–2027. The discussion is being carried out by absorbing public aspirations and input from various stakeholders through public hearings.

Commission III chairman Habiburokhman said the commission would hold public hearings intensively to ensure public aspirations are incorporated into the drafting process. According to him, Commission III plans to hold public hearings two to three times a week. The move is intended to fulfil the principle of meaningful participation in the deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill.

“We are targeting the Asset Forfeiture Bill to be passed before December 2026, or at the latest within two sitting periods,” Habiburokhman told reporters on Monday (17/8/2026).

Habiburokhman said deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill is not only conducted internally within the House. Commission III will also open as much space as possible for the public to provide input. He stated that the commission would make every effort to allocate time to receive public aspirations during the deliberation process.

The move is part of the House’s effort to fulfil the principle of meaningful participation in the drafting of legislation. With the plan to hold public hearings two to three times a week, Commission III hopes the process of absorbing aspirations can be carried out more intensively before the bill enters the next stage of deliberation.

Habiburokhman explained that deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill is expected to take longer than a number of laws previously discussed and passed by Commission III. He compared it with the Criminal Procedure Code Law and the National Police Law, which were passed earlier.

According to Habiburokhman, deliberation of those two laws was relatively different because the concepts and previous drafts were already available. The Asset Forfeiture Bill, meanwhile, is considered to have a genuinely new concept in Indonesia.

“It is different from the Criminal Procedure Code Law and the National Police Law, whose concepts and old laws already existed. We are determined that this law can further maximise the eradication of corruption,” he said.
