Assessing Insurance Company Performance: Who Comes Out on Top?
Jakarta — The Financial Services Authority (OJK) reported that the insurance industry’s performance remained stable through May 2026. Total industry assets reached Rp1,197.04 trillion, up 2.87% year on year (yoy).
The figures reflect the industry’s resilience amid economic fluctuations and changing public protection needs. Positive performance was driven mainly by the commercial insurance sector, whose total assets stood at Rp977.81 trillion, a 4.05% yoy increase.
Cumulative commercial insurance premiums reached Rp139.54 trillion through May 2026, up 0.67% yoy. Growth was supported by life insurance, where premiums rose 5.87% yoy to Rp76.79 trillion.
Meanwhile, premiums for general insurance and reinsurance totalled Rp62.76 trillion, a 5.03% yoy contraction. OJK also said the industry remained strongly capitalised. The aggregate risk-based capital (RBC) ratio was 481.20% for life insurers and 319.12% for general insurers and reinsurers, well above the 120% minimum threshold.
