Assault Victim Forgives Bahar bin Smith, but Legal Proceedings Continue
Tangerang Selatan — The victims of the assault, Rida and his wife Fitri Yulita, have privately forgiven the suspect Bahar bin Smith. Nevertheless, they have agreed to reject restorative justice and insist that the legal process continues.
‘A s an ordinary person I can forgive, but as for the legal process, please proceed to the court. I have already told Habib Bahar as well,’ Fitri Yulita told reporters at the Tangerang City Metro Police Resort on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.
The husband was punched and beaten by several people and had to receive medical treatment. The incident has also affected the family’s finances, with the husband losing his job and daily living costs mounting; Fitri said she even had to borrow money. ‘I hope the police can be fair, can strengthen the fairness of this, truly enforce the situation without discrimination,’ she added.
It is understood that the Tangerang City Metro Police have named Bahar bin Smith as a suspect in a case of assault against a Banser member in Cipondoh, Tangerang City. ‘The Metro Tangerang City Police named Bahar Bin Smith as a suspect in the case of alleged assault, an act committed against a Banser member in Tangerang City,’ said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit AKBP Awaludin Kanur when contacted, Sunday (1/2/2026).
Awaludin explained the incident occurred on 21 September 2025, when Bahar attended an event in Cipondoh. However, he did not provide the trigger for the alleged assault.
The case is recorded in Police Report Number LP/B/1395/IX/2025/SPKT/Polres Metro Tangerang Kota, filed by the victim’s wife, initial R. ‘However, when the officer approached to shake hands with Bahar, a group of people who guarded the event confronted him. The officer was then taken to a room, and there was physical violence until he was battered,’ Awaludin explained.
Bahar is charged under Article 170 of the Penal Code on rioting and/or Article 351 on assault, in conjunction with Article 55 of the Penal Code on co-perpetration. ‘We have named the suspect and sent a summons to the suspect (Bahar Bin Smith) to attend for questioning on Wednesday, 4 February 2026,’ added Awaludin.
