The Riau Islands Regional Police have escalated the handling of the suspected assault case against police officer Bripda NS, which led to his death, to the investigation stage.

Riau Islands Police Chief Asep Safrudin in Batam on Wednesday stated that the case is now being managed by the General Criminal Investigation Directorate.

“The case has been elevated to the investigation stage and is being handled by Ditreskrimum,” Asep said.

He revealed that preliminary autopsy results show elements of violence as the cause of the victim’s death.

“From the autopsy results, the cause of death was found to be due to acts of violence. This forms the basis for investigators to delve into the motive and chronology of the incident,” he stated.

Although one individual has been designated as the main perpetrator, namely Bripda AS, the police are still examining the possibility of other involved parties.

“It is still being investigated whether there are other perpetrators involved,” he said.

Previously, the autopsy was conducted at Bhayangkara Hospital in Batam, involving external forensic doctors from the Indonesian Forensic Doctors Association to ensure transparency in handling the case.

Asep emphasised that the police are committed to handling the case professionally and openly, even though it involves an internal member.

“We will not tolerate legal violations, including those involving our own members,” he stated.

He also expressed condolences for the passing of Bripda NS, who was assigned to the Mobile Brigade Directorate of the Riau Islands Regional Police.

The Police Chief assured that the legal process will be carried out thoroughly, both through criminal mechanisms and the code of ethics.

“If proven guilty, the perpetrator will be dealt with firmly in accordance with applicable legal provisions, including the possibility of dishonourable discharge,” he said.

At the end of his statement, the Police Chief conveyed an apology to the victim’s family and the public over the incident.

“We convey our apologies to the victim’s family and the public for this incident,” he stated.
