The South Jakarta District Court has rejected a pretrial motion filed by Asrul Azis Taba, Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Tour Travel Association (Kesthuri), regarding a search in the alleged hajj quota corruption case. The ruling was read by sole judge Sulistyo Muhamad Dwi Putro in a hearing at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday, 10 August 2026. The case is registered under number 121/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL. “Adjudged, in the principal matter, to reject the Petitioner’s pretrial motion in its entirety,” Sulistyo stated when reading the verdict. With this decision, Asrul’s pretrial motion concerning the execution of the search was wholly rejected.

In his considerations, the judge stated that the search conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) against Asrul in the case was in accordance with applicable procedures. The judge noted the search was carried out based on a search warrant. Furthermore, there was a letter from the chief judge related to the action. The execution of the search was also documented in a search report. Based on these considerations, the judge deemed there were no grounds to grant the pretrial motion filed by Asrul regarding the legality of the KPK’s search. “Order the Petitioner to pay court costs amounting to nil,” the judge said.

This is not the first time Asrul has filed a pretrial motion in the hajj quota corruption case. He previously submitted a motion regarding the legality of the forced measure of naming him a suspect. In a hearing on Monday, 6 July 2026, the South Jakarta District Court judge also rejected that pretrial motion. In the latest ruling, the judge noted that Asrul had previously filed a pretrial motion related to KPK Leadership Decree Number 524 of 2026 dated 30 March 2026 concerning the suspect designation. The judge opined that a pretrial motion with a petition relating to suspect status can only be filed once. Asrul Azis Taba is one of the suspects in the alleged corruption case involving hajj quotas for 2023-2024. The KPK previously detained Asrul along with Ismail Adham, Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour).
