ASROC slated to convene on July 29

JAKARTA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri announced on Wednesday that the Asia-Africa Subregional Organization Conference (ASROC) would be held on July 29 and July 30, after being postponed for four months.

Megawati said the conference would be held in Bandung as the commemoration of the first Asia-Africa conference in 1955, which was held in the same city.

"Indonesia and South Africa will co-host the ASROC meeting on July 29 and July 30," Megawati said during a joint press conference with visiting Mozambique President Joaquim Alberto Chissano at Merdeka Palace on Wednesday.

The meeting was originally scheduled in March, but was postponed due to the Iraq crisis and the Severe Acute Respiratory Symptoms (SARS) outbreak. --JP
