Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Chairman of the Indonesian Private SPKLU Owners Association (ASPELUSI), Anthony Utomo, stated that support in the form of incentives from regional governments helps foster the supporting industries for the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, one of which is the development of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU). He explained that regional government support through exemptions from regional taxes and relaxations of odd-even policies for electric vehicles serves as a positive signal that can accelerate investment growth in SPKLU construction. “When regional governments provide tangible incentives to electric vehicle users, the domino effect is immediately felt in the supporting industries, particularly the SPKLU sector,” said Anthony Utomo in an official statement received in Jakarta on Friday. He also assessed that the provision of such incentives not only encourages increased adoption of electric vehicles in society but also creates market certainty for business actors who wish to invest in supporting infrastructure for national electric mobility. Anthony stated that the main challenges in SPKLU investment so far have not only been in terms of technology and initial investment but also related to certainty of utilisation and growth in the electric vehicle population. With policies on electric vehicle tax exemptions and relaxations of odd-even rules, he hopes that the attractiveness of EV ownership will increase significantly, especially in big cities with high mobility levels. His side also encourages that this momentum be optimised immediately with accelerated construction of charging station networks by the private sector on a more massive and even scale. Moreover, the current electrification trend is not only occurring in private vehicles but is also starting to move into the commercial and logistics sectors, including ride-hailing, company operational vehicles, and electric trucks. “We see Indonesia is moving towards the era of an electric mobility economy. Therefore, supportive regulations must continue to be maintained consistently so that private investment can enter with high confidence,” added Anthony, who is also the Managing Director of Utomo Charge+ as a private SPKLU developer.
