Jakarta – The General Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Energy, Mineral, and Coal Suppliers (Aspebindo), Anggawira, has emphasised the importance of business involvement in accelerating downstreaming and the utilisation of natural gas in Indonesia.

According to him, energy transformation cannot rely solely on government policies but also requires investment support, innovation, and infrastructure readiness from the private sector.

He conveyed this during a talkshow and press conference titled “CNG and LNG for the People: Real Solutions for LPG Substitution and National Energy Self-Sufficiency” held at Energy Hub, Epiwalk Kuningan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.

“Business actors have a strategic role in building a gas-based energy ecosystem. We are ready to support the government’s programme, including in investments and infrastructure development,” Anggawira stated in a written remark, quoted on Thursday, 7 May 2026.

Anggawira also assessed that the utilisation of natural gas as an alternative energy not only impacts subsidy efficiency and import burden reduction but also has the potential to create broader economic added value for society and the national industry.

“This is not just about cheap energy, but also about how we create new industries, open up employment opportunities, and increase national competitiveness,” Anggawira said.

Meanwhile, the General Chairman of the Indonesian Liquefied & Compressed Natural Gas Companies Association (APLCNGI), Dian Kuncoro, stated that his side fully supports the government’s policy direction in optimising the utilisation of CNG and LNG as more independent and sustainable substitute energy.

“In principle, we in the association support the government’s programme related to the optimisation of CNG and LNG to replace energy that is still dependent on imports. This is not just about energy, but also about national independence,” Dian said.

On the other hand, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, along with the Director General of Oil and Gas, La Ode Sulaeman, said that his side is still studying the roadmap and cannot yet announce it to the public.

He still cannot disclose the roles of PT Pertamina (Persero) and the private sector in the process of fulfilling natural gas supplies, CNG filling, to the distribution of 3 kg CNG.

“The pattern I cannot announce yet, it is being prepared by the team, the Minister is also leading directly, so later it will be conveyed directly by the Minister. And for this, there is the preparation of cylinders, there is distribution, right? Well, this must match,” Laode said.
