Aspac, Siliwangi to open Kobatama

BANDUNG (JP): A match between former champion Aspac of Jakarta and home favorite Siliwangi will kick off the new season for the Kobatama national basketball league in the Pajajaran Sports Hall here on Wednesday.

The two clubs will join Ades Satria Muda, Pelita Bakrie and IM Texmaco in the four-day tournament, which serves as one of the league's two opening legs.

The other leg will be played in Surakarta, Central Java, from Oct. 21 to Oct. 25. It will feature defending champion Panasia Indosyntec of Bandung, Bhinneka of Surakarta, Surabaya's CLS and Pacific and Bima Sakti from Malang in East Java.

The league champion will receive the President's Cup and Rp 15 million (US$1,360) in prize money, while the runner-up will earn half of that purse. The third placed team will bag Rp 3.75 million. (43/lnt)
