“Asmoro” Returns: Thieves Target Moving Trucks in Marunda
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Two men, dubbed “Asmoro,” are suspected of stealing from a container truck on Jalan Akses Marunda, Cilincing, North Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/2/2026).
A video uploaded to the Instagram account @jakut_update shows one man, wearing a black jacket and trousers, attempting to pull an item from the moving truck.
The other man, wearing a blue-green shirt, runs along the sidewalk towards the truck, which is believed to be the target of the theft.
The truck’s horn can be heard sounding several times as the two men commit the theft.
Shortly afterwards, the man wearing the black jacket is seen taking an object, believed to be a jack.
According to the caption of the post, this act is referred to as the “Asmoro” phenomenon. It is said to occur frequently and causes losses for drivers.
Cilincing Police Chief AKP Bobi Subasri said that this phenomenon tends to increase as Eid al-Fitr approaches.
“This is theft; it happens because there is intent and opportunity. Because Eid is approaching, the trend of theft is increasing,” Bobi said when contacted by Kompas.com on Thursday (26/2/2026).
The “Asmoro” phenomenon differs from “bajing loncat” (bajilo) or mugging, as it targets tools and equipment on trucks.
Police are currently investigating the theft or “Asmoro” phenomenon shown in the video.
“The field team is investigating,” he added.
