PT Asuransi Kredit Indonesia (Askrindo), through its Semarang Branch Office, has signed a cooperation agreement for maritime micro-insurance with the local government of Demak Regency, Central Java, to provide protection for fishermen.

Askrindo Business Director Budhi Novianto stated that this collaboration is expected to serve as a protection solution for fishermen in Demak Regency, who have long required security guarantees for the wooden ships and boats used for fishing.

“With this cooperation, we hope that thousands of fishermen in Demak Regency will receive optimal protection, particularly for small to medium-scale fishing boats and vessels,” Budhi said in a written statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Budhi added that the partnership holds significant business potential, given that the Demak region possesses approximately 5,254 fishing vessels and 10,500 fishermen.

Askrindo Semarang Branch Manager Gami Aji Libraga added that this collaboration is a strategic step for Askrindo to expand insurance coverage within the marine and fisheries sector, specifically for fishermen who play a vital role in supporting regional economic resilience.

“The cooperation with the Demak Regency Marine and Fisheries Office is expected to provide a sense of security for fishermen in conducting their business activities, while simultaneously opening opportunities to develop other insurance services tailored to the needs of coastal communities,” said Gami.

In addition to the signing ceremony, Askrindo conducted a socialisation programme attended by fishermen from Demak Regency to provide an understanding of the benefits of general and micro-insurance products for the marine and fisheries sector.

“Moving forward, this collaboration is also expected to expand into various other insurance products, such as ‘Asuransi Mikro Usahaku’ for MSMEs involved in fishery and marine product processing, fishermen’s personal accident insurance, and other protection products,” he added.
