Asked if China would help Iran if the US launched an attack, here is Beijing's answer
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIJING – Amid the ongoing diplomatic process between Iran and the United States in Geneva, Switzerland, the potential for a regional war in the Middle East remains high. The Chinese government, in a press statement on Thursday (26/2/2026), stated that it is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East.
According to Beijing, China consistently supports resolving issues through political and diplomatic means and opposes the use of military threats in international relations.
In a press briefing on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao answered a reporter’s question about whether Beijing would support Iran if the US launched an attack. Mao affirmed that China supports the Iranian government and people in safeguarding their national interests and legitimate rights.
“We hope that all parties will respect peace, exercise restraint, and resolve differences through dialogue. China will continue to play the role of a responsible major country,” Mao said, as quoted by Global Times.
