PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir has opened the possibility of standing again as chairman of PSSI for the next term. However, he stressed that the decision will depend on discussions with the government, FIFA, and the support of Indonesia’s football community.

Erick made the remarks after the 2026 PSSI Ordinary Congress at the Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta on Monday (3/8/2026). His term as PSSI chairman will end in 2027, when the federation holds an Elective Congress to choose new leadership.

Erick said he is not in a position of wanting or not wanting to continue leading PSSI. According to him, what matters most is ensuring the best figure who can keep Indonesian football developing.

“I will certainly discuss it first with the government and also with FIFA. And of course it is the football community that decides. So we are not in a position of wanting or not wanting. Whoever is best for Indonesian football,” said Erick.

At the 2026 PSSI Ordinary Congress, participants also unanimously agreed to change the schedule of the 2027 PSSI Elective Congress. Originally, under the 2025 PSSI Statutes, the congress was scheduled for May 2027. However, by mutual agreement, the date has been postponed to July 2027.

Erick explained that the schedule adjustment was made to allow room for organisational consolidation after the provincial PSSI elections in October and November this year, as well as to align with the conclusion of the national league competition in June 2027. According to him, the move is expected to make the election process more effective, transparent, and in accordance with applicable regulations.
