Asians still invest in Wall Street

SINGAPORE: The recent spike in oil prices and a disappointing U.S. economic performance have not scared Asian investors away from Wall Street, U.S. treasury data showed on Monday.

Investors in the region as a whole chalked up US$64.5 billion in dealings on American exchanges in the second quarter of this year, up from $63.1 billion in the first, according to the breakdown in The Business Times.

The Japanese remained the top Asian investors followed by Singaporeans in the second quarter.

Trading volume involving Asians, particularly the Japanese, surged from $461.8 billion in the first quarter to $566.6 billion, with purchases of $290.6 billion and sales of $271.1 billion. -- DPA
