The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has expressed interest in opening a representative office in Jakarta to strengthen cooperation and improve coordination effectiveness for the implementation of AIIB-supported projects. This was conveyed by AIIB during a meeting with Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa in Beijing, China, on Wednesday. The office is planned to begin operations next year.

“AIIB is also interested in establishing a sort of branch office in Jakarta. We certainly welcome this intention, and I hope the office will be up and running by June next year,” said Purbaya.

Purbaya emphasised that the presence of an AIIB office in Jakarta is expected to further solidify the strategic partnership between Indonesia and AIIB, while also facilitating the implementation of various development programmes that receive funding support from the institution.

Indonesia has secured funding commitments of approximately US$17 billion from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to support various national development projects during the 2025-2029 period. This financing will utilise a Multi-Year Rolling Pipeline scheme. The funding support is expected to strengthen national development financing capacity and accelerate the execution of key government strategic projects.

“The most important thing is that we have managed to secure around US$17 billion in funding for development projects in Indonesia between 2025 and 2029. This represents a very significant contribution to financing development projects in Indonesia,” Purbaya stated.
