Asian Countries That Believe in the Afterlife: Where Does Indonesia Rank?

Not everyone believes there is life after death. According to data from the World Values Survey for the 2017-2022 period, released by Seasia Stats, 73.5% of respondents in Indonesia stated they believe in life after death. This figure places Indonesia in seventh position out of the 11 Asian countries surveyed. Indonesia’s position is below Bangladesh, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Meanwhile, Indonesia still ranks higher than Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, and China. Bangladesh is recorded as the country with the highest level of belief in life after death, reaching 98.8%. The next positions are occupied by Turkey at 91.8%, Iran at 91.3%, and Pakistan at 89.3%. The Philippines completes the top five with a belief rate of 83.8%, followed by Malaysia at 81.9%. In the Southeast Asian region, Malaysia is the country with the highest level of belief in life after death. Indonesia is in second place, followed by Thailand with 57.1%, Vietnam with 34.1%, and the Philippines, which is actually the highest in the region at 83.8%. Meanwhile, Japan recorded a relatively low figure, at just 32.2%. China is in last place with a percentage of 11.5%, indicating that only about one in ten respondents believes in life after death.
