Asian cities to host jewelry exhibitions

JAKARTA (JP): Three Asian countries will hold international jewelry exhibitions in quick succession later this month.

The annual exhibitions will take place in Guangzhou (China), Bangkok (Thailand) and Hong Kong. The first series of the exhibitions is to take place in Guangzhou, between June 15 and June 18.

Called the 10th Guangzhou International Jewelry Fair, it is said to be one of the most important jewelry fairs in Asia. Organized by Headway Trade Fairs and the China National Jewelry Export & Import Corporation, the exhibition will display works from 20 countries.

Two days later, on June 22, a jewelry exhibition will open at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok. It will run until June 25.

The jewelry industry in Thailand has developed markedly and the country's exports of gems and jewelry have increased substantially. Jewelry is now Thailand's third-largest income earner. At this year's exhibition, the country expects about 150 exhibitors from 14 countries.

Just after the Bangkok jewelry fair, Hong Kong will host its Jewelry and Watch Exhibition, between June 29 and July 2. The four-day exhibition, to be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, will display a wide range of glittering jewelry, gemstones and equipment for processing the gems. About 360 exhibitors will take part in the fair. (raw)
