Asia-Pacific Media Forum Held in Guangdong, China
Shenzhen, China (ANTARA/PRNewswire) — News article from Xinhuanet:
The Asia-Pacific Media Forum officially opened on Saturday in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, southern China, under the theme “Building a Path Towards Shared Prosperity for the Asia-Pacific Community: Media Consensus and Concrete Steps”.
Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Head of the CPC Central Committee’s Publicity Department, attended the event and delivered a presentation. Huang Kunming, a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, was also present and delivered remarks.
Participants referred to 2026 as the “China Year” in APEC, in line with China’s plan to host the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. With support from various parties, the meeting is expected to yield important agreements and push cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region to a higher level.
Participants emphasised the active role of the media in promoting development and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. The media also needs to tell stories about the principles of openness and integration, and provide comprehensive coverage of the region’s progress and achievements across various fields. These efforts are expected to help build public opinion supportive of openness and regional development.
Participants also assessed that the media must play an active role in conveying the outcomes of various APEC activities, as well as reviewing the policies and measures taken by APEC members to promote scientific and technological innovation. The media can also contribute to building regional consensus to achieve innovation-driven development.
They further called for strengthening results-oriented cooperation in various fields, ranging from joint coverage and technological innovation to human resource development. Media-to-media cooperation is seen as a means of deepening people-to-people ties in the Asia-Pacific region through cultural exchange, cross-cultural interaction and the delivery of positive messages. This step is expected to strengthen mutual understanding and forge closer relationships among the region’s peoples.
The forum was organised by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Xinhua News Agency and the Government of Guangdong Province, whilst the Shenzhen Municipal Government served as the implementing organiser.
More than 400 representatives from over 40 countries and regions, as well as representatives of United Nations agencies and international organisations, attended the event. During the opening session, 16 founding organisations from China and abroad jointly launched the Organising Committee of the Asia-Pacific Media Partnership Program.
