Asia-Africa Conference Important for World Peace
Jakarta, 22 April 1954 (ANTARA) - In response to a query from “Antara”, Otto Rondonuwu, Chairman of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Section, explained that in today’s morning working meeting of the section with the Foreign Minister, discussions also covered the possibilities of holding an Asia-Africa Conference as proposed by Prime Minister Ali Sastroamidjojo.
Rondonuwu further explained, in response to the follow-up query, that if the A-A Conference can later be agreed upon by other countries, it would be best to hold the conference in August, coinciding with the 9th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence, at the venue in Jakarta.
According to the opinion of the Chairman of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Section, the Asia-Africa Conference holds great significance for cooperation between newly independent Asian countries, because there are many shared interests among those countries, especially since Western countries usually regard Asian-African countries as merely “silent”.
If cooperation between Asian-African countries can later be concretised, it would hold great significance for efforts to hasten the achievement of world peace, Otto Rondonuwu stated at the end of his explanation.
