The Regional Office (Kanwil) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) in DIY has issued a reprimand to Ash-Sholihah Islamic Boarding School after one of its administrators became embroiled in a rape case. The boarding school, located in Jonggrangan, Sleman, is reported to continue operating normally.

“The boarding school is still operating because there are around 700 students here. We must consider the welfare of our children,” said Aidi Johansyah, Head of Religious and Islamic Education at the DIY Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, while personally delivering the warning letter to the school on Friday (11/9/2026).

Aidi visited the school after one of its administrators was reported in connection with a rape case. He stated that an evaluation of the case would be conducted, and if any violations of regulations are found, the school will face sanctions accordingly.

“We will conduct an evaluation of this pesantren (boarding school) and coordinate daily regarding the necessary steps,” he continued. “Regarding sanctions, we will follow the technical guidelines, including reviewing the establishment permit and the potential revocation of statistical permits. We will coordinate with our partners, specifically the Sleman Regency Ministry of Religious Affairs, to verify the factual data on the ground.”

Aidi noted that the warning was issued to ensure the school adheres to anti-violence protocols, covering both physical and sexual violence. The school has also been requested to implement child-friendly boarding school programmes.

Administrator Dismissed

It is reported that the administrator of Ash-Sholihah, identified by the initials NH or GN, has been reported to the Sleman Police for the rape of a 21-year-old former student, which resulted in pregnancy.

Legal counsel for Ash-Sholihah, Heri Purwanto, explained that following the revelation of the incident, NH has been dismissed and is no longer part of the institution. The school management claimed they were unaware of NH’s recent activities.

NH was reportedly not the head of the school but the son-in-law of the school’s leader and served as a teaching staff member.

“The school remains responsible; the school is conducting an investigation and has ultimately issued a decision to dismiss the perpetrator from the institution,” Heri explained during a press conference at the school on Friday (11/9/2026).

“After being dismissed, the perpetrator has left the boarding school premises,” he added.

Heri emphasised that the school has no involvement in the crime and is prepared to assist the police with the investigation.

“The school will not obstruct, cover up, or hide any evidence. I must clarify this because there are external narratives suggesting the school is protecting the perpetrator. The school does not protect the perpetrator,” Heri stated. He further noted that investigators from the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) had already visited the site to conduct a crime scene investigation.
