Asep Setiawan 'Abah Setu' Apologises Following Alleged Video Insulting Prophet

The leader of the Darul Nurul Hikam Assembly in Bekasi, Asep Setiawan, also known as Abah Setu, has issued an apology following a video that allegedly insulted Prophet Muhammad.

Abah Setu made this statement during a clarification and mediation session organised by the Bekasi Metro Police on Thursday (10/09). The session was attended by various relevant parties, including representatives from the Bekasi Regency Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), religious leaders, community figures, and representatives from various mass organisations.

“In that forum, Asep Setiawan expressed his apologies for his statements which caused public objection. Meanwhile, the information and evidence obtained are still being investigated by the police,” said the Head of Public Relations for the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Thursday (10/09).

Budi stated that the police are still investigating the incident. The police also urged all parties to ensure the situation remains safe and conducive.

“The police will continue to investigate the incident, monitoring and communicating with all parties to ensure that public order and security remain safe and conducive,” he said. He added, “The public is also urged to remain calm and refrain from taking any actions that could disturb security and order.”

Previously, a group of residents visited the Nurul Hikam Dhikr Assembly, led by Asep Setiawan, in Telajung Village, West Cikarang, following the viral video alleging insults to Prophet Muhammad SAW on Monday night (07/09). During the incident, personnel from the Bekasi Metro Police and the West Cikarang Sector Police arrived at the location. Officers urged residents to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and to report any alleged criminal acts through official police channels.

“The residents subsequently dispersed in the early hours of Tuesday under a safe and conducive situation,” Budi added.
